Bitney Springs Educational Foundation

The school is in the final stages of re-activating the Bitney Springs Educational Foundation. Several parents took the initial steps to create the foundation in 2004, but busy lives and a turnover of Parent Council officers soon put it on the back burner. For several years we were still listed as a California non-profit foundation, but with “dormant” status.

We now have federal tax-exempt status and will convene the first board meeting in the coming months. The BSEF is officially a 501(a)2 corporation. The primary purpose of the foundation will be to improve the fiscal standing of Bitney Prep, and thus ease the financial burden of the Parent Council. For many years the Parent Council has been responsible for contributing $30,000 per year to the general operating budget. During a few lean years, they actually contributed more. If the BSEF can be sufficiently endowed to take over that responsibility, and also contribute mightily to site improvements, the Parent Council would be free to spend their hard-earned dollars in other ways to support the program and the teachers. This is indeed a very exciting possibility.

We are poised to continue the major capital campaign that began last year, and actually endow the foundation with some solid operating capital. To assist in this process, Principal Bruce Herring has created an Investment Prospectus for all interested donors. To review the prospectus, please click on the link below. If you are interested in contributing to the capital campaign or serving on the BSEF board, do not hesitate to contact Bruce Herring.
